I've Learned the Secrets of the Fireswamp, and I can live there comfortably for quite some time.
My life has taken an interesting turn in the last month or so. With this turn has come somewhat of a clash of ideas/ideals. In concluding that I wasn't going to let pride get in the way of my love life (if I may be so bold as to use that term), I've decided that despite years of research, and prayer, (and frustrating inactivity), I've decided to say "Yes" on a couple of occasions when I see "professional" help offered in the realm of dating and the like. The most informative/helpful resource has been an ebook and CD series from http://www.doubleyourdating.com. OK, this site could be called www.howtogetlaidinfiveminutesorless.com but that doesn't mean he's totally ignorant. I've learned a lot. (High School makes so much more sense to me now!) He pays a great deal of attention to "the inside game" as he calls it, which is basically your self-perceptions, attitudes, etc. For example, he encourages approaching women with an attitude of "abundance" versus "scarcity". ie, I don't need you because there are lots of other women out there. I experience significant contradiction between my idea of following God to my one and only versus his (David DeAngelo is the name, henceforth known as "David"), and from what I can tell, the prevailing world view of dating, which is basically "the more, the merrier." Lotsa dates, lotsa girls, and lets not forget lotsa sex. To me this seems as smart as stumbling blindly around in a dark cave when you've got a perfectly good guide offering to lead you through.
Years ago I reached the conclusion that before I (or anyone really), gets into a serious romantic relationship, I can enter it best if approaching from the position of being contentedly single. I've learned the secrets of being contentedly single. I can stay this way for quite some time. It's the opposite approach to David's scarcity versus abundance theory, but quite frankly, I think it's way more powerful.

When they had finished dividing the land into its allotted portions, the Israelites gave Joshua son of Nun an inheritance among them, as the LORD had commanded. They gave him the town he asked for-Timnath Serah in the hill country of Ephraim. And he built up the town and settled there. Joshua 19:49-50 NIV
